This place is known for its mountainous hills and dense forest. It is one of the famous hill stations in Kerala which is located in the mid part of Kerala. Idukki is the largest District of Kerala and about 97 percent of the total area of the District is covered by rugged mountains and forests. There are nearly 14 peaks in this district and the most famous are Anamudi, Sabarimala, Karimala, Devicolam, Devimala, Perumal and so on. |

As the district lies mostly in the highland, it is covered with dense forest, steep hills, and deep valleys. Because of the undulating topography, large area of the district is not suitable for scientific cultivation. |
As a tourist destination, Idukki offers diverse attractions like Wildlife sancturies, Hill stations, Dams, Spece plantation tours, Mountain treks, Elephant rides etc. Numerous narrow steep- sided valleys, high ranges and wooded valleys gives adds more charm to this already mesmerizing destination and weight to its name. |

High ranges of Idukki attracted Scottish planters in the 19th century and they left behind some bunglaows in an around Munnar, which are quite notable for their architectural beauty.
Idukki also has the largest arch dam in India , the Idukki Dam, constructed for the Idukki Hydro Electric Power Project in 1969 with the cooperation of the Canadian Government. This single project powers almost half of the entire state and some parts of neighboring states. The most interesting places are Idukki Arch Dam – the second and Asia’s first arch dam, Thekkady – one of the finest wildlife reserve in India , Kumily, Murikkady, Kuthumkal Waterfalls and so on. |
