It is also called as Kozhikode and is the third largest city in Kerala which is described as the great province of Malabar .
Interestingly, the name Calicut is derived from ‘calico,’ and the fine variety of hand-woven cotton cloth said to have originated from this place. It continues to be a centre of flourishing domestic and international trade.
